Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity was founded on January 2, 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City. The founders were Helen St. Clair Mullan, Elizabeth Heywood Wyman, Jessie Wallace Hughan, and Stella George Stern Perry.
"We formed AOII to continue the friendships we made in college and throughout our lifetimes."
- Stella George Stern Perry
Object: "The object of this fraternity shall be to encourage a spirit of fraternity and love among its members; to stand at all times for character, dignity, scholarship, and college loyalty; to strive for and support the best interests of the colleges and universities in which chapters are installed; and in no way to disregard, injure or sacrifice those interests for the sake of the prestige or advancement of the fraternity or any of its chapters."
Mission Statement: "Alpha Omicron Pi is a women's fraternity whose purpose is to provide sisterhood for a lifetime, promote academic excellence, enhance personal and leadership development, and encourage fraternity and community service."
Philanthropy: Arthritis Research

Flower: The Jacqueminot Rose (because it has no thorns and is the most natural representation of our deepest, purest cardinal red color).
Unofficial Mascot: The Panda
Color: Cardinal Red
Jewel: The Ruby
Badge: The badge consists of the Greek letters A, O and II superimposed on one another. At the apex of the A is the Ruby.
Crest: AOII is the only women's fraternity that does not use a crest. Our founders felt that the beauty and simplicity of our badge possessed enough significance to stand alone. The founders reasoned that the Fraternity should adhere to ancient Greek ideals. It was a different people in a later time - the middle ages - that produced the crests, shields and other symbols of herald. We are truly Greek. Where other groups might use a crest, we display the Rose.

Philanthropy
On April 17, 2009 the Beta Phi chapter will be hosting their annual Strike Out Arthritis Philanthropy Event benefiting the Arthritis Foundation. Arthritis limits every day activities such as walking, dressing and bathing. This disease affects every age group including 300,000 children. It is the leading cause of disability in Americans over 15 years old.
This year the Strike Out Arthritis event will be held in cooperation with Indiana University Baseball. The event will consist of a scavenger hunt with booths placed throughout the IU campus. Teams of 4 will race to each booth and complete various activities relating to strikes, baseball, and IU and help raise money and educate them about arthritis. The clues will lead them across campus to end at Sembower Field where the participants and their corresponding houses will be awaiting the start of the game at 3 pm. Indiana University Baseball and Alpha Omicron Pi will announce statistics and inspirational stories in between innings and after every strikeout.
If you are interested in making a donation or would like more information about the event or the Arthritis Foundation, please feel free to contact us at randalla@indiana.edu or andersaj@indiana.edu.
