- 2006 fall - One dietetics class N321 has been highlighted by Indiana Daily Student as cool curriculum on October 30.
- 2006 fall - The Department of Applied Health Science holds the informal luncheon in the Georgian Room (in the Indiana Memorial Union), from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12th. This will give us an opportunity for interaction between AHS Associate Instructors, faculty, and staff.

- 2006 fall - The Department of Applied Health Science is honored to bring Acting Surgeon General Kenneth Moritsugu to Indiana University on Wednesday, November 29. Dr. Moritsugu will present: "IU Can Serve an Essential Role in Improving the Health and Prosperity of Hoosiers and the Nation" at 9:30 am at IMU Whittenberger Auditorium. - 2006 fall - The Indiana Prevention Resource Center participates in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day in the Main Lobby of the Wells Library today from 10am to 3pm on Nov. 15. We would love to have you drop by our tables. There are lots of give-aways, informative presentations and fun.
- 2006 fall - In celebration of the School of HPER's 60th anniversary, AHS alum Dick Enberg will join HPER and Journalism faculty for a conversation about his experiences as a sports broadcaster on November 9th at 7:00pm at the School of Journalism Auditorium. There will be a brief reception following the talk.
- 2006 fall - HPER Staff Advisory Counsil presents HPER Chili Cook-Off! On October 31, at noon in HPER 125. If you would like to be in the cook-off please let Annie Cambell (855-3627 or email jacscamp) know by 10/23.
- 2006 fall - Robert Lubitz (MPH '92) receives the John R. Endwright Distinguished Alumni Service Award on October 27. Dr. Lubitz serves as Executive Director of Academic Affairs and Research at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He oversees education programs for nearly 150 resident physicians-in-training and over 200 medical students annually.
- 2006 fall - David McSwane (HSD '80, MPH '72) is one of the recipients of the W.W. Patty Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. McSwane is a professor in the School of Public and evironmental Affairs at Indiana University - Purdue University at Indianapolis. Dr. McSwane is co-author of Essentials of Food Safety and Sanitation and the SuperSafeMark Retail Best Practices and Guide to Food Safety and Sanitation training series. He also creates a drinking water handbook for public officials.
- 2006 fall - Tobacco Control & Wellness Research Working Group (TobWell) Seminar: "Scientific Development of Survey Instrument with Adequate Reliability and Validity" is presented by Dr. Dong-Chul Seo from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm on Oct. 27, 2006. Location: HPER 019.

- 2006 fall - Sept. 28 Herald-Times article, "Many good reasons for habitat landscaping," introduced Vicky Getty's two-acre property in Greene County which contains a frog-filled pond and naturalized stands of wildflowers and trees . In the article Getty emphasized the importance of wildlife habitats and provided advice about wildlife gardening.

- 2006 fall - The Tobacco Control & Wellness Research Working Group (TobWell) research orientation meeting will be held in HPER Room 125 on Friday, September 22nd, from 12 noon to 2 pm. Pizza and refreshments will be served. Any graduate students who are interested in joining TobWell are welcome to attend.
- 2006 fall - Dr. David Lohrmann has been appointed to the External Review Group for evaluation of community alcohol and drug abuse coalitions for the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
- 2006 fall - Dr. Lloyd Kolbe has been selected to be included in ISIHighlyCited.com website for the ISI Web of Science because of his exceptional citation count in the field of Social Sciences.
- 2006 fall - Dr. Dong-Chul Seo’s article published in 2005 and entitled “An explicative model of unsafe work behavior,” has been selected as one of the Top 25 most downloaded articles published in the Safety Science Journal.
- 2006 fall - Eta Sigma Gamma holds a Call-Out Meeting at 7 pm on Monday, September 11, 2006 in HPER 021.
- 2006 fall - Elisabeth Catherine Andrews (MPH May ’06) is working for IU Media Relations as a health communications specialist. She works with HPER and other schools to help communicate effectively with the media to share public health information and research.
- 2006 fall - Amanda Braun (BS Nutrition Science May ’06) is at the IU School of Dentistry. She has received a health professionals scholarship through the Air Force that will pay for all of her dental school and then provide a job upon graduation.
- 2006 fall - Brian Dodge (PhD 2002, doctoral chair Dr. William Yarber) began his second year this fall as assistant professor in the Dept. of Behavioral Science and Community Health, College of Public Health and Health Professions, University of Florida, Gainesville. From 2002-2005, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies.
- 2006 fall - Kristin Hobson (MPH Dec. ‘05) is in the Asthma Program at the Indiana State Department of Health Maggie McKittrick (BS in Human Development and Family Studies August ’06) is working full time at St. Mary’s Child Center, a not for profit early intervention center, in downtown Indianapolis.
- 2006 fall - Robin Milhausen (PhD in 2004 , with doctoral chair Dr. William Yarber) this fall became an assistant professor in human sexuality and family relations at University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada. During the past year she was a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Social Justice and Sexual Health Research Lab, University of Windsor, Ontario. During 2004-2005, Robin was a post-doctoral fellow, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta, GA.
- 2006 summer - Dr. Kathleen Gilbert was a visiting professor at the International Islamic University in Malaysia in July and August. While there, she presented an invited talk at the Ministry for Women, Families and Community Development their version of the Department of Health and Human Services). Dr. Gilbert is recognized by colleagues for her leadership in the publication of the Annual Editions on The Family 07/08.
- 2006 summer - In July, Dr. Barbara Seitz-De-Martinez was invited by the Department of Education to present a session on meth at the School Service Providers Institute in Indianapolis.
- 2006 summer - Under the direction of Kevin J. Slates, we will have a state-of-the-art Industrial Hygiene Sampling and Analysis Laboratory. This facility will enable students to conduct health risk and exposure assessments of noise, ionizing radiation, muscular skeletal disorders, indoor air quality, flammables, combustibles, toxic gases, asbestos, lead and other contaminates.
- 2006 summer - Trent Applegate's First Aid students will have access to a state-of-the-art emergency care program and first aid lab located in the HPER.
- 2006 spring - The undergraduate safety curriculum has been changed from "Safety Management" to "Safety Science". The new Safety Science program will allow students to recognize, evaluate and control both safety and health workplace hazards.
