  • 2007 fall - The Department of Applied Health Science at Indiana University-Bloomington is seeking three new tenure-track, public health faculty members in the areas of epidemiology and biostatistics. Deadline is February 1, 2008. Click here for more info.
  • 2007 fall -  Dr. Earl Blair is being named in Workplace HR and Safety magazine’s first annual edition of Who’s Who among Safety Professionals. This recognition is based on his accomplishments and contributions to the safety field.
  • 2007 fall -  The informal AHS luncheon will be held in the Coronation Room (in the Tudor Room of Indiana Memorial Union), from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 13th. If you have classes that interfere with the above time, please feel free to come and go anytime between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. This will give us an opportunity for interaction between AHS Associate Instructors, faculty, and staff. Please RSVP to Annie Campbell (HPER 116) no later than Friday, December 7th.
  • 2007 fall - December 4 at 7pm.  Eta Sigma Gamma meeting in HPER 012.
  • 2007 fall - Latexhibition on World AIDS Day, November 29, 2007, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, at IMU Dogwood Room. Center for Sexual Health Promotion holds Latexhibition, an annual art event at Indiana University Bloomington. Artists from the community provide artistic displays that include latex barrier devices to promote their role in preventing sexually transmitted infections including HIV. The community is invited to visit the 2nd Annual Latexhibition and take time to appreciate the artistic talents of fellow community members and IU students. All IU students, staff, faculty, and Bloomington residents, artists, and allies are all invited to submit a piece for display and entry into the contest.

Center for Sexual Health Promotion Seminar: "Black Bisexual Men and HIV: Time to Think Deeper" by David Malebranche, MD, MPH. This event is co-sponsored by the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction; IU Office of Diversity Education; IU Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Student Support Services; IU Bi-Chat; and IU Blacks Like Us.
  • 2007 fall - The following students represented Applied Health Science and the ESG Nu Chapter at the 2007 SOPHE/ESG national convention in Alexandria Virginia: Sue Dai, Emily Erdmann, Emily Forsyth, Michelle Nardine, Chelsea Sipes, Stephanie Weeks, Kristin Skala, Shannon Cameron, Dana Umscheid, and Jylana Sheats.
  • 2007 fall - Rose Hartzell, MS in Health Promotion ’05 and doctoral student, has become certified as an American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) Certified Sexuality Educator.
  • 2007 fall - Lindsay Hattendorf, BS in Secondary Health ’07, has been awarded the American Association for Health Education’s Outstanding Undergraduate Health Education Major of the Year for IU in school health.
  • 2007 fall - Allyson O’Connor, Public Health student, has been awarded the American Association for Health Education’s Outstanding Undergraduate Health Education Major of the Year for IU in Public Health.
  • 2007 fall - Adeyinka Okunade, Nutrition Science student, was one of the 6 finalists for the IU’s Internal Wells Scholarship for ’07.
  • 2007 fall - Jacob Rider, Nutrition Science student, has been admitted to the IU School of Dentistry.
  • 2007 fall - MPH student, Tana Wells is the Epidemiology AmeriCorps member for 2007-2008 at the Indiana State Department of Health.

  • 2007 fall - Women's Health Forum. Dr. Catherine Sherwood is one of three featured speakers participating in an important event on tobacco use and women on Tuesday November 20 at 7:00 at Bloomington Hospital. Her topic is "How the Tobacco Industry Targets Women." This is unique opportunity to hear from three distinguished individuals on the toll of tobacco use among women and how the tobacco industry specifically targets marketing to women.
  • 2007 fall - Our department is recognizing four staff from the Monroe County Health Department at the Monroe County Commissioner's Meeting on November 19th at 9am in the in the Nat Hill Room -- the third floor of the County Courthouse. Dr. Torabi will give out the plaque and certificate of recognition. This is important to the Monroe County Health Department. We are really happy we are recognizing folks that have supported our department over the years and given their time and effort to help our students, staff and faculty. For more info, click here.

  • 2007 fall - Indiana Prevention Resource Center 20th anniversary Open House on November 15, 2007, from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM. The Indiana Prevention Resource Center has a new home in downtown Bloomington, 501 N. Morton, Suite 110 in the Indiana University Research Park. "This premier location comes at a monumental time for our center as we are growing leaps and bounds with the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant, SPICE, and the Indiana Problem Gambling Awareness Program.   • 2007 fall - In October, Dr. Debby Herbenick taped an episode of "The Tyra Banks Show" in NYC. This wasn’t just any episode, either - it was an episode about the vagina and vulva. This episode, titled "What’s Up... Down There?" will air on Monday November 5. Click here to watch the show clip.
  • 2007 fall - The Center for Sexual Health Promotion will hold Sexual Health Summit 2007 at Indiana University - Bloomington on October 22, 2007. On this day, leaders from academic, community, corporate, government, philanthropic, and religious institutions across the state will gather to discuss and debate strategies for moving forward to improve the state of sexual health in our state through research, education, and practice.   • 2007 fall - School Health and Health Promotion Annual Meeting. Please join us at the meeting on Friday, October 19, 2007, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at HPER 125. There will be light lunch and refreshment for all. This will be very informal meeting, no agenda. Dr. Torabi will say a few words to welcome students to our department. We will introduce ourselves to the group. Look forward to meeting you all.
  • 2007 fall - The Department’s Celebration of Excellence is scheduled for Thursday evening, September 27. The location is the DeVault Alumni Center, Kelley Room. A reception is scheduled from 6:30-7:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

  • 2007 fall - Jayme Levy and Katie Wood have been elected to serve as campus liaisons to the Student Assembly (SA) of the American Public Health Association (APHA) for Indiana University. Campus liaisons play an integral role at the local level by advancing the mission of the Student Assembly of APHA to enhance students' educational experience and professional development by providing information, resources, and opportunities through communication, advocacy, and networking. This is an exciting opportunity for the promotion of our students and our program at the national level.
  • 2007 fall - Dr. Nathan Shier is the recipient of the School of Continuing Studies Teaching Excellence Award for 2007. This award is in recognition of outstanding teaching and recognizes creative time and energy devoted to nontraditional learners over many years. These teaching duties are beyond his regular teaching responsibilities for the Department.

  • 2007 fall - The Center for Sexual Health Promotion has been established to replace the Sexual Health Research Working Group. The Center is a collaborative of sexual health scholars from across the campuses of Indiana University and strategic partner academic institutions around the globe.

  • 2007 fall - Zobeida Bonilla joins our Department as Assistant Professor. She received her PhD in anthropology from the University of Florida in 1998. Her research interests include Latino women's health disparities, maternal and child health, the role of community health workers in health promotion, and the use of qualitative methodologies in program evaluation.
  • 2007 fall - Fernando Ona joins our Department as Assistant Professor. He earned his doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley and San Francisco. Before coming to IU, he was Director of Minority Health and Health Disparities for the State of Vermont and an adjunct faculty member of the School of Medicine at the University of Vermont.
  • 2007 fall - LaDonna BlueEye joins our Department as Lecturer. She recieved her MPHfrom the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
  • 2007 fall - Brian Dodge joins our Department as Research Associate and Associate Director of the Sexual Health Research Working Group.
  • 2007 fall - Erin Cooperman joins our Department as Visiting Research Associate and Program Coordinator for an externally-funded grant, AmeriCorps Improving Health Throughout Indiana.
  • 2007 fall - Desiree Goetze serves as the Coordinator for External Affairs at the IPRC.

  • 2007 summer - Jacynda Lacy serves as the Community Prevention Specialist at the IPRC.
  • 2007 fall - Cynthia Flynn serves as the Contract Compliance and Fiscal Officer - Afternoon R.O.C.K. in Indiana Program at the IPRC.
  • 2007 fall - Junghun Lee serves as Manager of Web Services at the IPRC.
  • 2007 fall - Dr. Dong-Chul Seo, Bloomington City Mayor Mark Kruzan, Monroe County Prosecutor Chris Gaal, IU Dean of Students Richard McKaig, and Ivy Tech Chancellor John Whikehart join together and announce initiatives to prevent drinking and driving and underage drinking at City Hall on August 28, 2007.
  • 2007 fall - Jennifer Kelly serves as Assistant Project Manager for the Indiana Problem Gambling Awareness Program at the IPRC. She is the current Southern Chapter President of the Indiana Public Health Association.
  • 2007 summer - Michael Reece has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure and received the first-ever Outstanding Early Career Research Award from the School of HPER.
  • 2007 summer - David Lohrmann was promoted to Full Professor and received the School of HPER Outstanding Teaching Award.
  • 2007 summer - Catherine Sherwood was promoted to Clinic Associate Professor.
  • 2007 summer - Noy Kay and Dong-Chul Seo each received the University's Trustees Teaching Award.
  • 2007 summer - Mohammad Torabi received a Presidential Citation from the American School Health Association during the Annual Conference of the Association in July, 2007.
  • 2007 summer - HPER H617: Public Health In Africa - African Study Abroad Experience: Exploring Public Health Responses to Kenya’s HIV/AIDS Epidemic. An overseas research and service opportunity of the Sexual Health Research Working Group being held through a partnership between the Department of Applied Health Science and the Department of Health Policy at the Moi University School of Public Health in Eldoret, Kenya. This experience will take place between June 27, 2007 and July 15, 2007. This experience will offer an opportunity for graduate students to gain a better understanding of the work being conducted by public health researchers and practitioners in Kenya in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. As part of this experience, students will: • Participate in health policy courses offered at the Moi University School of Public Health that will be taught by Dr. Michael Reece and Dr. Debby Herbenick in partnership with Kenyan faculty members. • Work as a member of a team in collaboration with Kenyan MPH students on service related projects dealing with HIV-related mental health, treatment adherence, orphan’s programs, and nutrition. • Participate in research initiatives being conducted through partnerships between IU and Moi University faculty members. • Learn more about the IU-Kenya program known as AMPATH, the Academic Model for the Prevention and Treatment of HIV/AIDS.

  • 2007 summer - HPER H445/H645 Travel Study to China, Hong Kong, and Thailand will be offered in Summer Session II (from June 18 to July 1, 2007). The course primarily focuses on topics related to health, the main health challenges, health care systems, and relationship of health and culture. Activities include: visiting hospital, community health clinic, university, & school as well as meeting and discussing with students/scholars in those countries.   • 2007 summer - Lesa Lorenzen-Huber and Catherine Sherwood co-teach a course entitled "New Beginnings, New Relationships" in Mini University.
  • 2007 summer - Mohamma Torabi offers a course entitled "Prevention Is the Cure" in Mini University.
  • 2007 summer - Alyce Fly teaches "You Are What You Eat: Using the Computer to Evaluate Your Diet" in Mini University.
  • 2007 summer - Dr. Lesa Lorenzen-Huber was offered and has accepted the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in the area of gerontology in our Department.
  • 2007 summer - Twenty-eight seniors and two master’s students completed their dietetics requirements during the 2006-07 school year. Twenty-six of the 30 students applied for dietetic internships, a necessary step to become a Registered Dietitian (RD). Twenty (77%) received an internship placement. Of those placed 68% received their first or second choice. (The overall placement rate for our program since 2000 is 92%.) Of the students who received internship placements, 3 will go to the Ball State dietetic internship, 2 to IUPUI, and the rest to internships scattered throughout the country.
  • 2007 summer - Yeon Bai (June ’07) with her dissertation entitled “Factors influencing continuation of exclusive breastfeeding for six months: an application of the theory of planned behavior”. Yeon will be moving to New Jersey in the fall to teach at Montclair State College.
  • 2007 summer - Debra Herbenick (Sept. ’06) writing on “The Development and Validation of a Two-Component Scale to Measure College Students’ Attitudes Toward Women’s Genitals” Debby is a Research Associate and Lecturer, and Associate Director of the Sexual Health Research Working Group for the Department of Applied Health Science at IU.

  • 2007 summer - Amanda Tanner (May 07) with the following dissertation “Social and Situational Factors Influencing Use of a Microbicide Surrogate: Implications for Young Women’s Sexual Health”
  • 2007 spring - Lindsey Cook, MPH student, is a writer for the American Public Health Association Student Assembly Newsletter. Her spring article featured Students for a Common Sense Health Plan, an active organization on the IU campus which sponsors awareness raising events for universal health care coverage.
  • 2007 spring - Dr. Michael Reece is the recipient of the 2007 Faculty Mentor Award, presented by the Indiana University Graduate and Professional Student Organization.
  • 2007 spring - Heidi Boruff (BS in Dietetics ‘04) is the President Elect of the South East Indiana Dietetics Association for the coming year. She will serve as the President during 2008-2009.
  • 2007 spring - E. Lisako J. McKyer (PhD in ‘03, MPH ‘00) is completing her first year as an assistant professor at Texas A&M University in College Station. Since arriving in Texas last summer, Dr. McKyer has been awarded two extramural grants – one from NIH (National Institute of Child and Human Development) and the second from the USDA in conjunction with the Texas Department of State Health Services. The funding totals over $577,000 to date.
  • 2007 spring - Marty Leik (MS ‘06 in Safety Management) will be featured on the Discovery Channel show entitled Extreme Engineering (to be renamed “Build it Bigger”). The show will feature a tour of the top 15 projects across the world. Marty is a project manager for safety at the Trump International Hotel in Chicago. The show should air in September.
  • 2007 spring - Matthew Lee Smith (BS ‘02 in Public Health, MPH ‘04) is completing his first year as a doctoral student at Texas A&M University in Health Education. Matthew is a graduate research assistant and Marketing Chair at the Center for the Study of Health Disparities at Texas A&M University. His research interests include adolescent health risk behaviors, health disparities, human sexuality, ATOD prevention, and violence and injury prevention. He also hosts/produces a weekly radio show titled Brazos Valley Health, which focuses on various health issues and health disparities. He serves on the Graduate Student Council (as the Vice President), in the Alpha Pi Chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma, and as the Legislature Committee Chair for the Texas School Health Association.
  • 2007 spring - On April 27, 2007 the School of HPER welcomed faculty, staff, university officials, and emeriti faculty to a gala at the Wells House in the final celebration of our school’s 60th year and the farewell party for Dean David Gallahue.
  • 2007 spring - Our enrollments in major and elective courses continue to rise and we have recruited top quality students to our various programs, both undergraduate and graduate. This past year we had almost 500 undergraduate majors, 82 masters students, and 32 doctoral students. We continue this year to have an all-time high number of applications for admission to our graduate degree programs.
  • 2007 spring - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention named a new award after professor Lloyd Kolbe. The award was named and granted April 24 in a ceremony in Atlanta. The Lloyd J. Kolbe Award for Leadership in Coordinated School Health was named after Kolbe in honor of his research over the last 25 years. His research helped adolescents and schools address natural and man-made disasters, reduce obesity and control asthma. Kolbe was the founding director of the Division of Adolescent and School Health in the CDC for 18 years. The goal of this group was to help schools improve not only the health of the young, but also their social development.
  • 2007 spring - Dr. David Lohrmann is the recipient of a Certificate of Excellence from the American Cancer Society for his leadership and guidance as a Core Team member for the Michiana Coordinated School Health Leadership Institute. He also has received the School of HPER Outstanding Teacher Award, 2007 – 2009, and an American Cancer Society Great Lakes Chapter Certificate of Excellence, 2007.
  • 2007 spring - Mary Winburn has been recognized for her 15 years of service to IU.
  • 2007 spring - Annie Campbell has been nominated as a candidate for HPER Support Staff Award by showing her initiative, reliability, cooperation, attitude toward job and the School, and overall job performance.
  • 2007 spring - The Indiana Public Health Association is pleased to announce that abstracts are now being accepted for the 2007 Annual Meeting to be held May 8-9 on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington. This year abstracts will be submitted online. The deadline for submission is January 17, 2007.   • 2007 spring - Sharon Nejfelt, MS in Safety Management, had a poster abstract, entitled “Buffering Factors of Social Support on Daily Stress of Older Workers: An Analysis of Literature Review,” accepted for the American Society of Safety Engineers Conference for June 24-27, 2007 Orlando, Florida. She is also presenting for the Indiana Public Health Association’s Spring Conference, May 8 and 9, 2007.
  • 2007 spring - The new officers of Eta Sigma Gamma - Nu Chapter  are President - Sue Dai, Vice President - Kayla Stockert, Treasurer - Emily Erdmann, Secretary - Jenny Mann, Historian - Michelle Nardine.
  • 2007 spring - Eta Sigma Gamma - Nu Chapter is holding Initiation for new members Saturday April 28 at 1:30pm in HPER 125. The Initiation speaker this year is Suzanne Crouch, Director of the Coordinated School Health Programs division with the Indiana Department of Education. The members and member candidates have worked very hard this year. In fact tonight they are conducting the annual Girl Scout Health Education Overnighter at the Ruth Lilly Health Education Center in Indianapolis. Please join us on April 28 to congratulate the students and meet their families and friends. Light Snacks will be available.

  • 2007 spring - TobWell seminar from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm (refreshments from 12 to 12:30) on April 20, 2007, in State Room East at Indiana Memorial Union. Dr. Judith Monroe, Indiana State Health Commissioner, presents "Tobacco Control - Evidence Based Policy and Programming."
  • 2007 spring - "Bloomington Campus Back Pack Weigh In" on April 17th & 18th. Organized by IU American Society of Safety Engineers. Purpose: This activity will promote the Safety Science, Safety Management programs at IU and highlight backpack safety awareness to the public. Weigh stations will be set up at campus bus stops. Additional locations include the Arboretum at Fee Lane & 10th street, between Woodburn and Ballantine Hall, at the Sample gates. Students will also record the type of back pack report finding to the IDS.

  • 2007 spring - RCAP's next national conference, HIV/STD Prevention in Rural Communities: Sharing Successful Strategies V," will be April 5-7, 2007, at Indiana University, Bloomington. The conference call for abstracts is now available and submission deadline is February 9, 2007. 
  • 2007 spring - TobWell seminar from 2:30 to 3:30 pm on March 30 at HPER 125. Dr. Mohammad R. Torabi presents "Tips for Publishing in Professional Journals."
  • 2007 spring - Matt Morrow, one of the founding members of Y’ALL a student organization for disaster relief, recently completed his 6th trip for the Katrina recovery effort. Matt will be at IUPUI next fall earning a masters degree in health, and he hopes to start a Y’ALL chapter there.
  • 2007 spring - Cheryl Holmes and Dr. Kevin Slates from our Safety faculty hosted the Indiana Department of Home Land Security Higher Education Advisory Board meeting on March 16, 2007.
  • 2007 spring - On March 8, Emily Dutton (BS HDFS, ’00), Sheila Allen (MPH, ’01) and Erica Vagedas (BS Dietetics ’02) spoke to AHS students about their career paths.
  • 2007 spring - Dr. Lloyd Kolbe was recently recognized by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as the Division of Adolescent and School Health’s founding director. The first annual Lloyd J. Kolbe Award for leadership in Coordinated School Health was awarded to the Directors of Health Promotion and Education. This award is being inaugurated in 2007 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the publication of a landmark article by Dr. Kolbe and Dr. Diane Allensworth that provided a widely accepted framework for coordinated school health.
  • 2007 spring - Dr. David Lohrmann is the recipient of a Certificate of Excellence from the American Cancer Society for his leadership and guidance as a Core Team member for the Michiana Coordinated School Health Leadership Institute.
  • 2007 spring - Mike Thompson won the American Association for Health Education Outstanding Undergraduate Major of the Year Award for Health Education- Secondary Teacher Preparation.
  • 2007 spring - Anna Saraceno won the American Association for Health Education Outstanding Undergraduate Major of the Year Award for Public Health.
  • 2007 spring - Faye Stokes, Nutrition Science, has won the Jesse H. and Beulah Chanley Cox Scholarship this year through the IU Foundation.
  • 2007 spring - Adeyinka Okunade of nutrition program earns Archie M. and Eleanor Williamson Koon Scholarship.
  • 2007 spring - This year's Crane Fund for Widows and Children Scholarship is awarded to Wendy Youngvorst (undergraduate) and Natalie DeWitt (graduate).
  • 2007 spring - Natalie DeWitt and Catherine Shepherd receive this year's Donald J. Ludwig Scholarship.
  • 2007 spring - Dana Umscheid has been awarded the J.K. Rash Scholarship.
  • 2007 spring - Dawn C. Smith, MPH, was 2nd place for School of HPER Minority Student Achievement Award.
  • 2007 spring - Jeanette Bauer-Westrick, and Cara Berg, both Human Development and Family Studies, have won Hutton Honors College Undergraduate Professional Experience Internship Grants. Cara is also the winner of the Dean’s Senior Recognition Award.
  • 2007 spring - Linsey Booth and Alise Echele , Dietetics, Heather Gray, Public Health, and Amanda Robbin, Human Development and Family Studies, have won Hutton Honors College International Experience Grants for study abroad. Linsey and Heather are traveling to Australia, Alise is going to Ghana, and Amanda to Italy. through AHS; Heather also received a Returning Student Scholarship through the IU Credit Union.
  • 2007 spring - Marica Coduti, Dietetics, received the Indiana Dietetic Association Scholarship.
  • 2007 spring - Lacey Hall, Dietetics, received the Mary Hebenstreit Memorial Award through the Indiana Dietetic Association.
  • 2007 spring - Alise Echele is the recipient of this year's Joan Weinberg Wolf Scholarship for Dietetics.
  • 2007 spring - Nutrition student Shelby Sutton has been granted the Margaret Seberger Scholarship.
  • 2007 spring - This year's recipients of Opal G. Corad Nutrition Scholarship include Gwynavere Beck, Linsey Booth, Justin Brown, Marica Conduti, Kara Curry, Lindsay Fountain, Marissa Goodman, Jordan Hollander, Megan Kelly, Elizabeth Lemmon, Vivtoria Parry, Nicole Pirau, Renee Rogers, Tiffany Swartzentruber, Elizabeth Taylor, Jenna Terwiske, Kristen Vavra, and Alison Vollmer.
  • 2007 spring - Safety students, Tanah Combs, Jennifer Kinder, and Kevin McCarty, receive Pantaleoni Scholarship.
  • 2007 spring - Undergraduate student Tanah Combs and graduate student Jaesin Sa are the co-winners of Ron Hall Scholarship.
  • 2007 spring - Ruth Mary Griswold Scholarship has been awarded to undergraduate students Jessee Bussan, Kari Frields, Jamie McFerran, Jacob Rider, Shana Sporman, Shelby Sutton, and Wendy Youngvorst, and graduate students Kim Hieftje, Shubhangi Kulkarni, Lori Robakowski, Rebecca Roberts, Catherine Shepherd, and Julie Shertzer.
  • 2007 spring - Elizabeth Lemmon earns this year's W.W. Patty Scholarship.
  • 2007 spring - Shubhangi Kulkarni and Jaume Padilla are the winners of Margaret Seberger Scholarship.
  • 2007 spring - This year's William L. Yarber professorship in Sexual Health goes to Amanda Tanner.
  • 2007 spring - Wendy Youngvorst earns the Carter Littell Memorial Scholarship by pursing her career in healthcare services, particularly related to the treatment of physical and mental handicaps.
  • 2007 spring - Jayme Levy, MPH, won an Educational Opportunity Grant from the Indiana University Graduate School.
  • 2007 spring - Eta Sigma Gamma - Nu Chapter received a grant for $350 from Baxter International Foundation in recognition of Rebecca Robert’s involvement with the honorary. Rebecca is the current treasurer of the chapter and a masters student in Nutrition Science.
  • 2007 spring - Dr. Mohammad Torabi received a commendation from the International Council for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport, and Dance, for outstanding contributions to the mission of the Council.
  • 2007 spring - Dr. Kevin Slates, along with Stuart Grande, doctoral student, attended the 17th Annual Public Health Awareness conference sponsored by the Morehouse Public Health Institute. The goal of the conference was to better prepare underrepresented minority students for entry into graduate schools of public health with special emphasis on the quantitative areas of public health such as biostatistics, epidemiology and occupational safety and health.
  • 2007 spring - TobWell seminar from 12:30 to 2:00 pm (pizzas from 12:30 to 1:00) on February 28 at HPER 125 Speaker: Dr. Steven Jim Sherman, Professor in Psychology, presents "Social-Cognitive Perspectives on Cigarette Smoking: A Developmental Context from Adolescence to Mid-life."  If you are interested in attending the seminar, please send an e-mail to Dr. Seo (seo@indiana.edu) or call him at 812-855-9379 at your earliest possible convenience so an appropriate amount of food can be ordered.
  • 2007 spring - On February 23rd, A.J. Rose, CPS, hosted IUB faculty (Dr. Slates), graduate and undergraduate students during plant tour of the faculties at Daimler- Chrysler Transmission Plant in Kokomo Indiana. Safety students were able to see what it was actually like to work in the field after graduation.
  • 2007 spring - February 19 the Journal Gazette publishes Dr. Mohammad Torabi's commentary article, "Tax increase is an act of compassion toward smokers."
  • 2007 spring - 2007 Indiana Safety and Health Conference & Expo on February 13 and 14. Dr. Earl Blair presents "12 Best Practices for Teaching and Presenting Safety Topics" and conducts a workshop "Application of Leading Indicator Measures for Safety Improvement."
  • 2007 spring - HPER Technology Showcase 2007, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2007 at HPER 125. Dr. Lesa Lorenzen Huber presents "Gaming and Simulations" and Chao-I Yang and Dr. Earl Blair present "Breeze." 
  • 2007 spring - TobWell seminar. Dr. Dong-Chul Seo presents "Appropriate Statistical Analyses for Various Different Types of Research Questions and Designs, Part II (Nonparametric Tests)" Time: 2:30-4:00 pm on January 26, 2007. Location: HPER 017.
  • 2007 spring - Brandy Rollins, Tana Wells, Susan Jackson, Mercedes Murray, and Charlene Maddox collaborated with Dr. Mary Shaw and the Center for Minority Health to host the inaugural Healthy Lifestyles Conference for African-American Women at the Neal Marshall Black Cultural Center on January 27, 2007.
  • 2007 spring - Eta Sigma Gamma will be having its first mass meeting of the semester at 7pm in HPER 021 on Tuesday January 9. Don't miss you chance to become involved with this great organization focusing on health education in our community! We will be planning an overnight education trip to the Ruth Lilly Health Center in Indianapolis, three on campus screenings with IU Health Center CAPS, INshape Indiana 10 in 10 program promotion, and much more!
