Association for Practical & Professional Ethics

The Annual Fund for the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics

Your gifts will help support specific projects that expand participation and research to further your Association's mission.

The first initiative, the Young Scholars Program, will enable students to participate in Annual Meeting activities by helping to defray registration fees. A second, Cross-Cultural Perspectives in Practical and Professional Ethics, will help underwrite the costs for cross-cultural programming at the Annual Meeting.

The Annual Fund will also provide support, as available, to attract outside scholars to the Annual Meeting as well as the costs of a study group to consider issues of interest to academics, the general public, business and nonprofit organizations, and policymakers.

The Annual Fund also provides resources needed to help increase the visibility of your Association by promoting media coverage of activities, including the Annual Meeting, and publications. Contributions may also support expanded efforts to publicize the Annual Meeting and the Ethics Bowl competition.

Our strength lies in the timely development of our field, increasing visibility and the inherent interest shared by professionals, academics, and the general public.

Young Scholars Program

We seek to generate greater interest in practical ethics by developing an infrastructure that will encourage wider participation and cross-cultural synergy in this expanding field.

The Young Scholars Program will assist graduate students and undergraduates presenting papers at the Annual Meeting by providing support for travel/lodging costs and registration fees.

The objective is to provide enough funds for the Annual Meeting registration fee plus $180 towards lodging and travel for graduate students whose papers have been accepted for presentation. Additional funds would cover the registration fee and $180 for lodging/travel for winners of the undergraduate paper competition, as well as registration fees for undergraduates participating in the Ethics Bowl.

$12,400 will provide :

20 Graduate Students @ $250 each ($70 Registration, $180 Lodging/Travel)

10 Undergraduates @ $250 each ($70 Registration, $180 Lodging/Travel)

70 Ethics Bowl Students @ $70 each for Registration

Cross-Cultural Perspectives in Practical Ethics

We seek to encourage greater discourse in practical ethics from cross-cultural perspectives by strengthening our capacity to attract scholars from diverse ethnic, religious, cultural, and international perspectives.

The Cross-Cultural Perspectives Program will provide funds to defray registration and travel expenses for Annual Meeting presenters. This innovative program will also support an interdisciplinary study group each year on an issue in practical or professional ethics from a cross-cultural perspective.

Topics in Practical and Professional Ethics

The study group would be selected by a committee appointed by the Executive Committee on the basis of a call for proposals. The study group would hold a weekend conference, and the group’s report would be completed in time for the results to be presented at the Annual Meeting.

$8,500 will provide : Ten Presenters @ $850 each ($200 Registration, $250 Hotel, $400 Travel)

$5,000 will provide : Five Participants @ $1,000 each for Travel Expense for a Weekend Conference
