Ethics and Values in Science, Education, and Technology Awards at the National Science Foundation

The National Science Foundation supports research on Ethics and Values in Science through its Science, Technology and Society program. For more information about EVS proposal topics that are appropriate for STS, the various modes of funding supported by STS, proposal deadlines, contact information and other pertinent information, please consult the STS Program Solicitation: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2008/nsf08553/nsf08553.pdf.

The National Science Foundation also supports projects on Ethics Education in Science and Engineering through its EESE program, which is managed by one of the STS program directors. For more information about the EESE program proposal deadlines, eligibility information, contact information and other pertinent information, please consult the EESE Program Solicitation: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2011/nsf11514/nsf11514.pdf.

NOTE: The STS program strongly encourages the submission of EVS and EESE proposals especially in light of recent increased emphasis on ethics and values in science, technology, and engineering at NSF.

Templeton Freedom Awards for Excellence in Promoting Liberty

In its 2008 Templeton Freedom Awards program, the Atlas Economic Research Foundation will give out 2 different prizes of $10,000 each for the Ethics and Values category. Institutes can now apply for these prizes.

Ethics & Values – recognizing outstanding research and innovative projects concerning the relationship between free enterprise and the ethics, values, and character that sustain it.

Two winners of $10,000 will be announced for this category. One prize will be given to an “established institute” (older than eight years), and one to an “emerging institute” (eight years or younger).

To Apply: Complete and submit the online TFA application at: https://secure.lexi.net/atlas_usa/tfaepl.php by the August 1, 2008 deadline.

Prize Announcement: Winners of 2008 Templeton Freedom Prizes will be announced in November 2008, and will be featured in events surrounding the Atlas Freedom Dinner in Washington DC on November 12-13.
