Module 17: Video: "Williamsburg Restored”

Readings: Blakey, "American Nationality and Ethnicity in the Depicted Past”;
Martin, "Colonial Williamsburg–A Black Perspective”

This is an old 1950s movie on Colonial Williamsburg. I have my students watch the movie, then write half-page responses to the following questions:

1. Was the presence of African Americans and slavery at Colonial Williamsburg properly acknowledged in this movie? Provide examples.

2. Why is it important to acknowledge the presence of African Americans and slavery at Colonial Williamsburg?
