BCAP 2002 Staff Assignments and Participation

Principal Investigator and Instructor: William Andrefsky, Professor of Anthropology at WSU. Andrefsky was present at the field school location approximately one-third of the time and was responsible for the research and curricular designs. The 2002 field school session represents the fifth season of fieldwork on the Birch Creek Archaeological Project, initiated by Andrefsky in 1998. Four of these five field seasons have been run as WSU field schools.

Coordinator of SAA/NSF Curriculum Project: Bill Lipe, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at WSU. Lipe participated in student orientation in Pullman at the beginning of the project, then spent approximately half of the second session and the last quarter of the third session at the field location. He is responsible for compiling information about the WSU field school and making it available to the MATRIX workshop.

Bureau of Land Management Representative: Diane Pritchard, District Archaeologist, Vale, Oregon. Diane Pritchard worked with Andrefsky on field school permits and research design and visited the field location for a day to observe the excavations and give a lecture.

The following staff were full-time with the Field School. In addition to their other duties, all participated in the excavations daily. Each was responsible for supervising the fieldwork of three students.

Co-Instructor: Ian Buvit, Ph.D. student at WSU. The 2002 field school was Buvit's second field season with the Birch Creek Project. He shared responsibility for directing the Field School with Andrefsky.

Field Director and Equipment Coordinator: David Satterwhite, M.A. student at WSU. The 2002 field season was Satterwhite's fourth with the Birch Creek Project.

Logistics Coordinator: Karisa Terry, Ph.D. student at WSU. The 2002 field school was Terry's second field season with the Birch Creek Project.

Laboratory Coordinator: Erin Wallace, M.A. student at WSU. The 2002 field school was Wallace's second field season with the Birch Creek Project.
