SELECTED INVITED PRESENTATIONS AND CONSULTING RESPONSIBILITIES

Since 1985 I have developed and coordinated sixteen national conferences and fifteen international conferences held in Australia (2), Austria, England (3), Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Scotland (2), South Africa, and the United States on the topic of assessing quality in higher education.  I have consulted with faculty and administrators in 44 states and Puerto Rico on the topic of outcomes assessment.  In 1986 I gave an invited address at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris. In 1990 I was an invited speaker for meetings on evaluation conducted in Beijing and Shanghai by a consortium of 50 Chinese universities.  In 1992 I addressed a plenary session of a conference in Bonn for German university faculty on the topic of quality assessment.  In 1996 I gave a keynote address for the Maritime Provinces universities in Canada.  In 1998 I made a keynote presentation at the annual meeting of the European Association for Institutional Research in San Sebastian, Spain.  In 2000 I gave invited addresses for the Canadian Institutional Research and Planning Association and the Technikon Free State in South Africa.  In 2001 I gave two invited addresses at the United Arab Emirates University.  In 2003 I served as a consultant at the Technikon Free State.  A selection of my other invited presentations and consulting responsibilities follows:

PUBLICATIONS AND REFEREED PAPERS

(Note: Prior to 1983 I contributed 60 articles and technical reports and 30 conference papers to the literature on education and work, program evaluation, and college student services.)

Since 1983 I have edited ten published volumes on outcomes assessment in higher education and contributed 22 chapters to other published works.  During that time I have also published over 150 articles and technical reports. A bibliography of these works is attached.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE AND THESIS SUPERVISION

At Indiana University I am a member of the graduate faculty and am approved to direct doctoral dissertations.  I teach a graduate course on outcomes assessment and supervise a graduate assistant in the higher education program who works in my office.  I have served on more than twenty doctoral committees.

At the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I was also a member of the graduate faculty and approved to direct doctoral dissertations.  I taught research methods courses for master's degree candidates and lectured in several doctoral seminars.  I served on the committees of two master's degree candidates and eight doctoral candidates.
