1. Compare the Early Horizon with the Middle Horizon in South American prehistory. What is a horizon and how is it manifested in the archaeological record? Does it mean civilization?
2. Why is the Early Intermediate period so named and what was happening during this time? Describe the art and iconography of the Moche and Nasca, the best-known Early Intermediate cultures, including symbolism.
3. Describe and compare at least 2 Internet websites concerning topics in South American archaeology that we have dealt with during this section of the class, i.e., Early Horizon, Early Intermediate, or Middle Horizon topics or sites. (You do not have to print out the website pages to accompany the test paper unless you want to). What is the audience for the Internet sites and what is the archaeological perspective? In your comparison, mention what you learned from these websites that goes beyond what we have dealt with in class. Is there any public archaeology content?
