The magazine "Gente 10" is a bimonthly publication by Design and Communications J&D S.A. It is the first magazine directed at Costa Rica's gay and lesbian community, a sizable sector of the market. The magazine began in 1994 and has published seven regular issues plus one special
issue on AIDS as of April, 1996

"Gente 10" covers a variety of topics from health
(safe sex, natural foods, health care, human rights, AIDS, etc.) to culture, with commentaries on
art, film, and dance as well as information on the latest fads, the entertainment world, national and international tourism, local entertainment, and fashion.
The magazine includes a Spanish and English directory of gay and lesbian bars, dance spots, bath houses and hotels throughout Costa Rica.

Design and Communications' objective with "Gente 10"
 is to:
  1. provide the local gay and lesbian communities with news an
    entertainment and
  2. bring to the international market a new publication that provides
    access to Costa Rica's gay and lesbian communities.

"Gente 10" is distributed throughout Costa Rica in bookstores, at the University of Costa Rica, in bars and hotels, and in health clinics. In addition, "Gente 10" has sold issues in Miami
Florida, Bloomington Indiana, and San Francisco California, and has
subscribers in Germany, Canada, Mexico, U.S., and other countries of Central América.
