| Welcome | Welcome to M333, a class required at Indiana University for certification in elementary education. The emphasis is upon classroom application of teaching art. The objectives for the class are as follows: |
| Instructional Goals | This
course is designed to provide you with theoretical and practical foundations
of teaching art in the elementary classroom, and to assist you in becoming
more comfortable and confident in your ability to design and implement
arts activities for your students. We will cover a range of topics including,
but not limited to, the following:
|
| Ways You Will Learn | To
work towards accomplishing these goals this course is designed, in part,
to reacquaint you with the pleasure and excitement of creating in a variety
of media. Through your participation in a number of "hands on" workshops
you will acquire new skills that will assist you in your efforts to incorporate
art activities into your classroom practice in individual and meaningful
ways.
Another aspect of the M333 class will be to prepare you to look at and talk about art with your elementary students. This activity is important not only for learning about art, but is a skill that can be integrated with other subjects such as social studies, science, language arts, and math. In fact, in your field experience, you will be required to teach an art lesson as part of a social studies unit. |
| Grades and Evaluations | Students
who meet the minimum requirements as set out by each assignment will obtain
a "C" in this course. In order to obtain a "B", students must put forth
additional effort and all grades received must be a "B" or above. In addition,
class participation and above average attendance is necessary (See
Attendance Policy). Students who expect to receive an "A" is this course
must put forth outstanding effort with outstanding results. This includes
showing evidence of reading the required assignments through active class
participation. Papers and projects must be of high quality and must be
turned in on time (See
Late Assignment Policy). Plagiarism is not tolerated. The IU
Student Code of Ethics applies to this class. NOTE:
A final grade of C- or lower will require that students repeat the course.
This new school-wide policy went into affect September 1998.
