These are illustrations,
based on an illustrated children¹s book Chipo and the Bird on the
Hill by Meshack Asare, created by elementary education majors in the
M333 class.

Lesson objectives were
for students :
Part 1:
(1) be able to discuss some
origins of Zimbabwe rock paintings
(2) able to recognize styles
of Zimbabwe rock painting
(3) plan a visual narrative
painting in which a favorite part of a story is told using solid figures,
and details of the Zimbabwe environment, and unity of composition
Part 2:
(1) be able to choose the
best sketch to be the basis of their final
painting
(2) use pen and ink and pastel
to tell Chipo¹s story that includes people and Zimbabwe landscape
features
(3) critique their own and
their classmates¹ paintings in terms of motion of the figures, variety
of landscape details, use of media, unity of composition, how easily the
story can be told, and if the entire page is covered
