Arts Administration Professor Honors Jazz Legend David Baker with New Book

December 14, 2011

Please congratulate, Dr. Monika Herzig, SPEA Arts Administration Lecturer, on the recent publication of her book, David Baker - A Legacy in Music. Herzig’s book chronicles the 60-year career of David Baker, legendary jazz musician and distinguished professor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Though Baker has authored many books on jazz pedagogy, theory, improvisation and history, this will be the first book written about his life and career. The book is a collaboration between Herzig and seven other contributing authors, all of whom are either Baker’s former collogues or students. The book is accompanied by a full-length CD and includes a foreword by Quincy Jones and photographs from throughout Baker's career. The book is also product of a prestigious research grant awarded to Herzig by the National Endowment for the Arts for her book publication, CD release, and two radio documentaries.
