Math majors triumph in competitions

IU math majors John Brown, Miles Dillon Edwards, and Timothy Zakian won the 2012 Indiana College Math Competition, held on March 23, 2012. The competition consisted of jointly solving and writing up solutions to 8 difficult math problems. The IU term scored 73/80 which gave them a clear first out of 28 teams from Colleges and Universities throughout the state. IU has won the competition three years in a row.
IU math majors Miles Edwards, John Brown, Yi Zhu also excelled in the Putnam Mathematical Competition, held on December 3, 2011. The competition consisted of individually solving and writing up solutions to 12 fiendishly difficult math problems. The performance of the IU team was ranked at 18th out of 460 teams from Colleges and Universities throughout North America.
