BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—

On April 18, 2013, the Indiana University Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures hosted “A Night of Talents” in Rawles Hall, an evening of song, dance, and poetry in celebration of Slavic culture and arts.

Students from the department’s Russian courses performed songs and skits in Russian, while others performed dances or showed movie clips representative of Slavic culture. Department chair Russell Valentino gave a reading of “Pierre Menard’s Alexander Blok,” and Russian 102 student Brandon Cook recited a poem in Russian. To finish out the evening, Slavic graduate students Kimberly Madsen, Tyler Madsen, Rebecca Baumgartner, Elena Doludenko, and Kate Pickering all performed three folk dances from the Croatian, Slovak-Czech, and Romanian tradition. The evening was full of fun, laughter, and gave students and faculty the opportunity to share some of the most beloved aspects of Slavic culture. Na Zdraví (cheers)!
