Jeff Moerchen's (BA'09, documentary photography and culture studies) final project for the IMP was a photographic essay on Ligonier, Indiana, a small town undergoing dramatic change with an influx of Hispanic immigrants. Jeff's work has now appeared as 168-page paperback published by IU Press. In a podcast on Ligonier: A Photographic Essay, Jeff—who grew up near Ligonier—recalls some advice he was given by Bloomington photographer Tyagan Miller: "A lot of times, artists and photographers think that we have to be in Afghanistan or in Iraq….and then we would make really important work, but…you can do that really close to where you live."
