Posted: Monday, November 21, 2011
On Dec. 1, 2011, the University of Iceland will bestow an honorary doctorate, doctor philosophiae honoris causa, on Marianne Kalinke, PhD ’69, in recognition of her prolific research and publications on medieval Icelandic literature, for furthering and stimulating research in older Icelandic literature, and strengthening international relations at the University of Iceland in medieval studies. Marianne adds: “The news of this came as the biggest surprise of my life. I shall have to hold a small speech at the ceremony in which I plan to say that it all started with a doctoral requirement in Old Norse-Icelandic for medievalists in the German Department at Indiana University.”
