How are the 2012 presidential and congressional elections unfolding? How do we interpret public opinion polls and shifts in momentum that occur during the run-up to Election Day? Why is the Missouri race between Claire McCaskill and her Republican challenger so important? Please join Professor Russ Hanson, Chair of Political Science, as he examines the current electoral cycle: from how political scientists forecast Presidential, Senate and U.S. House contests to the types of policies each party will try to enact once votes are counted and the winners are determined. RUSSELL L. HANSON is professor and chair of political science at IU-Bloomington's College of Arts and Sciences, where he has taught since 1980. He is interested in American federalism and has published articles on political culture, economic development, and social policy in the American states. Among his edited books are Reconsidering the Democratic Public (1993) and Governing Partners: State-Local Relations in the United States (1998), and Politics in the American States (2012). Hanson also writes on American political thought, and is the author of The Democratic Imagination in America: Conversations with Our Past (1985).
