Alexander translates 15th-century Italian chronicles
Posted: Tuesday, September 25, 2012
Graduate student William Austin Alexander completed translations of 15th-century Italian chronicles into English for the newly published book The Legend of Montaperti by Dr. Bradley Franco (University of Portland). Alexander is beginning the MA program in Italian in the Department of French and Italian this semester after having completed an MA in History at Syracuse University. He has already completed several graduate-level Italian courses at the Middlebury College summer language school.
Franco’s book examines the events which preceded Siena’s famous victory over the Florentines at Montaperti in 1260, and the supposed gift of the keys to the city to the Virgin Mary. Alexander’s main translation was of a chronicle by Niccolo’ di Ventura. The book was published by Betti Editrice, Siena (Italy) this summer.
