Chairman of the Board
Brandon Tran
 |
My name is Brandon Tran and I am a senior majoring in Biology here
at IU. This is my third year on the Asian Student Union board, this
time as chairman. I am the biggest Indianapolis Colts fan and my
many hobbies include trying new restaurants, poker, bowling, sports,
and hanging out with my friends.
I truly feel that the 21 member organizations of ASU culturally
enhance the atmosphere here on campus and in the Bloomington
community. Through each organization's culture nights and events, I
feel they do a fine job of promoting their own culture as well as
the Asian culture.
As director of ASU I really hope to promote more collaboration
between the student groups so that TOGETHER we are easily one of the
biggest student programming bodies here at Indiana University. I
also hope to foster more support and initiative to get a bigger
Asian Culture Center. The Asian Culture Center needs much
improvement and needs to be expanded. |

Board of Director
(Mr. & Ms. Asia Co-Chair)
Courtney Amelia |
Hello! My name is Courtney Amelia and I’m a junior at IU majoring in
Voice, Nursing, and Linguistics. I’m very excited for my first year
on the Asian Student Union board, as a director and MMA Co-chair
with Meng! I love spending time with my family and friends,
exploring different cultures, singing, dancing, watching cartoons,
songwriting, cooking, and going to Church.
My personal goal is to help the Asian Community and Associations
create a positive outlook on Asian culture, countries, and people.
As a freshman I decided to explore my ethnicity as a half-Filipino,
and I joined the Filipino Student Association. With the help of FSA,
I was able to discover many other organizations, and have come to
respect and support each of them. Joining the ASU board allows me to
meet and collaborate with many other cultural groups on campus, and
further my knowledge and appreciation!
As an Asian Student Union Board Director, my goal is to help unite
the 21 Asian student organizations of ASU to promote cultural
awareness! Getting involved in the Asian community has such a
positive and educational impact on the IU campus, and is a great
experience for anyone involved in Asian cultures. Meng and I are
going to work very hard to organize and present a successful Mr. and
Miss Asia. If you have any questions and suggestions, please feel
free to contact me. Our ASU board is very open and positive and is
willing to work with you! |

Board of Director
(Finance Chair)
Mao-Wei Chu
 |
Hi, everyone! My name is Mao-Wei Chu, a senior in Kelley Business
School student at IUB. I am majoring in Finance.
This is my first year in ASU as a board director. Other than this, I
am also a treasurer at UIC (Undergraduate Investment Club) and
senior adviser at TWSA (Taiwanese Students Association). The
interests of mine include almost all the sports games and traveling
around. |

Board of Director
(Advocacy Co-Chair)
Andrew Jin
 |
Hi my name is Andrew Jin. I am a Kelley Business School student
majoring in Finance and entering my sophomore year. I am involved
with several other Asian organizations such as AAA and ABS and am
also in the Lambda Alpha Phi fraternity.
I joined Asian Student Union because I truly feel changes are
necessary. I believe ASU is largely underrepresented and by joining
ASU I hope to change that. To achieve this goal, I will help ASU
grow its organization to include more members and alliances with
other Asian student organizations by sponsoring and supporting more
of their events and through getting to know the members of the other
organizations. Through this growth, ASU will be a more active and
legitimate union in the IU Bloomington community. Another long-term
goal of mine is to gather support for a bigger Asian Cultural
Center, both for Asians and those interested in Asian culture. The
ACC building here at IU is inadequate and I want to change that. I
hope my goals and aspirations will be met, if not this year, then in
the years to follow. |

Board of Director
(Advocacy Co-Chair)
Kimberly Sarabia
 |
My name is Kimberly Sarabia and I am currently a sophomore majoring
in Political Science. This is my first year as a Board of Director
in the Asian Student Union. I usually spend my time discussing
social issues, watching films, and exploring Bloomington.
As one of the new Board of Directors for ASU, I believe that
increasing communication between the different Asian organizations
within the university can address a multitude of issues. By giving
the organizations more opportunity to interact with each other, I
believe that the barriers between groups can be reduced as well as
increase the sense of unity within Asians and Asian-American
students. |

Board of Director
(Public Relations Co-Chair)
Angeline Sutanto
 |
My name is Angeline Sutanto but I prefer to be called Angie. I am a
transfer student from California and I am a senior majoring in
Finance and Marketing here at IU. I love to travel, gain new
experience, and try different kind of foodsJ. This is going to be my
first year in ASU and I believe this will be an amazing new
experience for me.
As a new director of ASU, I believe that ASU can be a "pot" where
every Asian country melts together. Each one of us brings something
to contribute and complement each other in this melting pot. Each
country is responsible not only for the success of its events, but
also those of other Asian countries. I hope that with some helping
hands and friendly faces in their cultural and national events,
together we can build a home away from home in our beloved city
Bloomington. |

Board of Director
(Mr. & Ms. Asia Co-Chair)
Meng Yang
 |
This is Meng Yang. I am from China. Currently I am a junior majoring
in Accounting and Finance at Kelley School of Business. This is my
first year on the Asian Student Union board as the MMA co-chair with
Courtney. I am representing IU Chinese Student and Scholar
Association. In my free time, I like hanging out with friends,
dancing, watching movies and trying out new things. This summer I am
learning ice skating and it makes my summer a whole lot of fun.
Before I joined ASU, from my past involvement in other
organizations, I felt as individuals we all did a successful job in
promoting our own cultures, however I feel that we can make a bigger
difference on campus if we have more collaboration. I also hope to
help build up friendships between members in different organizations
since it not only helps us to do our work better but also benefits
any of us in a long run. As the MMA co-chair, the biggest thing I am
expecting to accomplish is the annual Mr. & Ms. Asia Pageants. It is
definitely my most favorite event on campus. I feel so lucky that
this year I can have a personal involvement in this event and I have
the strong confidence that Courtney and I can present one of the
best Mr. & Ms. Asia Pageants to you. Let me know if you have any
questions for me. I would be more than happy to talk to you! |

Board of Director
(Public Relations Co-Chair)
Yitong Wang
 |
My name is Yitong Wang, and I am a junior majoring in Apparel
Merchandising and Business. I spend most of my free time working on
the sewing machine, wasting time on eBay, and exploring the campus
through a camera's eye.
I was first introduced to ASU as a participant in the annual event
MMA, where I was able to interact and bond with students of other
organizations. This year, I am fortunate enough to be on the board
of directors for ASU, I believe that ASU and the 21 organizations of
ASU can work together to promote friendship, culture, experiences,
and leadership. |
