What is Alpha Chi Sigma?

The following is a brief discussion of the history and purpose of Alpha Chi Sigma. If you are interested, a more in depth disscussion can be found at the National homepage.

Alpha Chi Sigma was founded in 1902 at the University of Wisconsin Madison by nine chemistry students. They set forth three objectives which all members follow, even today. These are:

  1. To bind its members with a tie of true and lasting friendship.
  2. To strive for the advancement of chemistry both as a science and as a profession.
  3. To aid its members by every honorable means in the attainment of their ambitions as chemists throughout their mortal lives.
From humble beginnings this organization has grown. Through tough times it has flourished and stood.

Alpha Chi Sigma is a coed professional fraternity revolving around those interested in the sciences. On the exterior, the fraternity is a place for biology and chemistry majors, especially those who plan on attending medical school or graduate school; however, it is much more than that. Beyond the intellectual reputation that the Epsilon chapter has made for itself lies a group of friends who want to involve themselves with the university in a way that goes beyond academics, be it athletically, voluntarily, etc. Moreover, the Epsilon chapter strives to be more than just a professional fraternity and frequently incorporates many social aspects to compliment its professioanl face; in a manner of speaking: WE DO STUFF!

We know what it means to have high ambitions and the dilligent work involved in attaining those ambitions. Alpha Chi Sigma provides us with a means of furthering our ambitions, while at the same time, provides us with an escape from the dilligent work we all face. Whether these ambitions are in the classroom or beyond it, we support each other. Through AXE and the collective support it provides, a you can maximize your experience as a college student and enjoy yourself on your quest for success.
