Message from The Colonel - September 19, 2008
Director of Athletic Bands - David C. Woodley

Greetings from B'town!!

It seems like we've been going for about two months now, but this weekend will mark "only" our third game! The band has been preparing daily for our show this weekend, which will include The Who classic "Won't Get Fooled Again," our RedStepper feature "Knock on Wood" and our patriotic closer, "The Stars and Stripes Forever." IU is calling this weekend's game "A Salute to America," and we're happy to close our show with our national march.

We continue to thank our tailgate crew for the outstanding meals each and every week. I can't tell you how nice it is to have such a dedicated group of parents and friends who are willing to spend time (and money!) each home game to feed the band. As parents graduate (I should say, their students!) it's nice to see new families stepping up to help the gang. As always, a big "thank you" to all who help the Hundred each and every week.

We're back at it next week with our first Big Ten game of the year vs. Michigan State. Sparty comes to town for a noon kickoff on the 27th.

I hope you'll be able to join us in the future for game day here at IU. The Hundred is progressing well, the football Hoosiers seem to be making great strides each and every week. Is it possible bowl games will become routine?

At Lucas Oil Stadium

Thanks to Erin Woodley for this photo of the Marching Hundred! The Hundred represented Indiana University well in this NFL Kickoff game in the NFL's newest venue, Lucas Oil Stadium.

Meet the Department

The Indiana University Department of Bands traces its history back to the founding of the Marching Hundred in 1896 (although official University records indicate a start-up fee in 1832 for a "university band"). The Department of Bands is represented by: three music-major Concert Ensembles (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band), various small ensembles, the All-Campus Band (a non-major band meeting once a week on Monday night), The Marching Hundred, The Big Red Basketball Band and the Crabb Pep Bands (men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball and women's basketball). The IU Summer Music Clinics are also housed in the Department.
