Message from The Colonel - September 26, 2008
Director of Athletic Bands - David C. Woodley
Here come the Spartans!!
After our last game vs. Ball State, the Marching Hundred is doing what they can to keep spirit and energy at a high level at The Rock.
MSU brings one of the nation's best runners to town, so the IU defense will need to be at the top of their game in order to get Big Ten win #1.
The Marching Hundred will be presenting music of "Queen" at halftime.
Drill design was created by Dr. Paul Popiel, Associate Director of Athletic Bands at IU.
The show will feature "Keep Yourself Alive/Another One Bites The Dust," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "The Show Must Go On."
Many of you have written to ask about PowerPlay! - since the start of The Walk three years ago, we have moved our pre-game concert to just before the team arrives at Assembly Hall.
You can plan on 2.5 hours prior to kickoff as the start of our pre-Walk concert - the band lines up at Assembly Hall and will play for 30 minutes as the team arrives for the game.
We play a mix of IU favorites, including many of the songs we play in the stands during the games.
It's a fun atmosphere - The Kids Zone is just to our South, so please bring your entire family to The Walk.
Thanks for your continued support of the Hundred - after this week, the band has a two-week break and will be back at The Rock on Saturday, October 11 vs. Iowa.
The Hawkeye Marching Band will be joining us as a visiting band for that game, so look forward to seeing two great Big Ten bands in action!
The marching band is an important part of college gameday - the spirit and enthusiasm from the band is infectious in the stadium!
So that's why photos of the band and fan activities in photo galleries are right alongside the action shots of the team.
Thanks to IU Gameday Central for the photo above of the Marching Hundred at last weekend's game against Ball State.
You can see more gameday football pictures (a few of the band, too!) on IU Gameday Central.
