Message from The Colonel - October 23, 2008
Director of Athletic Bands - David C. Woodley
Greetings from Bloomington!
The Marching Hundred returned from a very exciting weekend in
Illinois - playing for our Hoosiers in Champaign on Saturday night, and then
playing for "Da Bears" in Chicago on Sunday. It was a very short trip, as
the band did not get to their hotel in Chicago until 1:30 a.m. on Sunday
morning. They were bright and cheery as the buses made their way to
historic Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon. The weather was perfect, and
our trumpet soloist, Joey Tartell was in rare form!
All in all, a very fun trip for everyone.
The Hundred returns to the friendly confines of The Rock this weekend as we
welcome back 160+ members of the Marching Hundred Alumni Band!! The Alumni
Band will perform two numbers during the pre-game show, and then will join
the "junior" band on field at halftime to perform Sing Sing Sing. We look
forward to seeing the alumni band every year, and know this year will be
another rousing success.
This week's halftime show was written by Associate Instructor Pam Holt - I'm
A Believer, Do You Believe in Magic, and Don't Stop Believin'. Pam has done
a great deal of hard work on the show and we think you'll really enjoy her
musical arrangements and drill.
Don't forget to join the Hundred at The Walk to The Rock, which will begin
at 9:30 this Saturday morning. Kickoff is set for noon.
A reminder to all Hundred fans - our indoor concert, the Band Showcase, will
be held Wednesday, November 12, at 7:30 in the Assembly Hall.
Tickets will be available at the door, along with concessions and the chance to buy Marching Hundred merchandise.
We hope you'll be able to join us that night.
See you this weekend for Homecoming at IU!
