Do you have what it takes to make it to New York City?
Last year, a team from IU traveled, all expenses paid, to PwC’s Executive Offices in New York City and competed in the national finals of the 2006 PwC xAct case competition. In each of the three years before that, teams of IU students made the same trip and one of them WON the National Finals. We have been invited to try to reclaim that title this year. However, just like the last four years, we have to earn the trip to NYC and that process starts with the local-level competition. Details about the case competition follow:
PwC’s Description of xACT
xACT (short for extreme accounting) is the PwC xTREME Campus Competition designed to give you experience and exposure to real world accounting/auditing issues. Here's your chance to test your critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills against hundreds of the best accounting students from the top schools around the country. xACT presents challenges that focus on the impact of accounting policy on the business and investing community.
Who:
- YOU! Teams must have five students. At least two team members must be sophomores and one team member must be a junior. Other team members may be at any level: freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or fifth year students. In addition, one of these "other" team members may be a general business or business-related major, such as Finance or Information Systems. All team members must either be enrolled in the first accounting courses or be an accounting major at the undergraduate or graduate level. Law school students are not eligible.
Where:
- Campus Competition Presentations – Indiana University
- National Finals for the top team from five universities - New York City (in January)
When:
- Registered teams will gather for an official xACT “mission meeting” in CG 1014 on Friday, October 19, 2007 at 5:00pm. Given the meeting time, PwC will serve PIZZA; so, bring your appetite, too.
- Campus presentations will be in CG 1008 on Friday, November 2, 2007 (two weeks after the mission meeting). This meeting event will culminate with announcement of the campus winner and dinner for all participants.
Why:
- The winning Indiana University team will receive $1,000!
- The 5 national finalist teams (chosen from over 40 participating Universities) will receive $10,000 per team!
- Team with your friends or work with classmates you have not yet met!
- Build relationships with PwC professionals!
- Test your skills and meet the challenge!
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO NOW?
1. To learn more about xACT 2007 go to our xTREME website at www.pwc.com/extreme. Click on xACT.
2. If you wish to participate in this year’s competition, here is what you need to do:
a. Anytime prior to October 12, 2007: Try to form your own team. (Be sure to comply with team-composition instructions) If you are successful in organizing a five-person team, please send the names of the five team members, including academic year (i.e., freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or 5th year), to Patrick Church at PwC (patrick.j.church@us.pwc.com). This is necessary to register your team.
b. October 12 thru October 18, 2007: If you are not a member of a full team, send us your name and year (i.e., freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or 5th year) and we will try to match you with other interested team members. Please send the information to Patrick Church at PwC (patrick.j.church@us.pwc.com). (Note: This option is a little bit risky because your participation is subject to availability of other students.)
c. October 19, 2007: Registered teams attend the mission meeting.
d. November 2, 2007: Registered teams present their case solution.
Of course, if you have any questions about the competition you should feel free to contact Patrick Church at PwC (patrick.j.church@us.pwc.com) or Leslie Hodder at IU (lhodder@indiana.edu).
