Research Opportunities

POST-DOCTORAL POSITION studying the biobehavioral correlates and mechanisms underlying risk for substance abuse and dependence and disinhibitory psychopathology.

The Biobehavioral Alcohol Research Laboratory under the direction of Peter R. Finn, Ph.D., in the Clinical Science Program in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University has a postdoctoral position that is currently filled by Dr. Tim Bogg { tbogg @ indiana dot edu }. This position offers a wide range of research training and opportunities in a laboratory conducting research with individuals at risk for alcoholism and drug-dependence, individuals with early-onset alcohol/substance abuse or dependence, and individuals with a history of conduct disorder or antisocial personality. Broadly speaking, the research is focused on investigating deficits in behavioral regulation as a core mechanism underlying risk for early-onset alcoholism and other disinhibitory psychopathology. Some of the overarching themes of our projects include studies of the effects of alcohol on cognition and self-regulation, psychophysiological and electrophysiological studies of information processing and behavioral regulation, studies of the cognitive neuropsychological, behavioral, motivational, and psychophysiological correlates of personality- and familial-risk for substance abuse.

We also offer a postdoctoral position funded by an NIMH Clinical Science Training grant in the Clinical Science program in the Department of Psychology at Indiana University. The Clinical Science program is a training program in clinical psychology that offers hybrid training that integrates clinical, neural-, and cognitive science. Salaries start at $26,000+. Please contact Dr. Peter R. Finn by e-mail { finnp @ indiana dot edu } or call 812-855-9548.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH TRAINING. Advanced undergraduate students may work in the Biobehavioral Alcohol Research Laboratory at many levels of the research process. Students in the lab gain valuable experience with traditional and cutting-edge research techniques in psychological/clinical science, while also earning P493/P494 credit toward the completion of the requirements for a degree in psychology from Indiana University. Interested students should contact either Dr. Finn { finnp @ indiana dot edu } or the Laboratory Director Ms. Jesolyn Lucas { jeslucas @ indiana dot edu } well in advance of the semester(s) they intend to enroll for research credits.
