Community Service
The BCEC has a philanthropic responsibility to the local community. To fulfill our commitment, we strive to participate in a meaningful way in our community through both charitable giving as well as through volunteer activities. We also give back by organizing and supporting various university volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
Rock For Kids’ Sake
Rock for Kids’ Sake originated as a senior capstone project for IU student Sam Worobec, but has evolved into a production involving many organizations including the BCEC, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, campus fraternities and sororities as well as local businesses.
The goal is to raise as much money as possible for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America through the power of music with a focus on doing it through students to highlight the opportunities that students can create for others.
This event will offer something for everyone on campus as well as in the community and holds the hopes of
becoming a yearly event for Indiana University.
Spirit of Sport
Since its launch in 1976, funds raised through
Spirit of Sport have helped Special Olympics Indiana provide opportunities for physical fitness
and fun competition to thousands of young children and young adults with disabilities. Raising over $310,000
in its 28 year history, Spirit of Sport has helped Special Olympics Indiana participants demonstrate courage
and experience the joy of shared challenge, camaraderie, friendship and skills through sport competition.
Spirit of Sport strives to increase awareness and financial support for Special Olympics Indiana through
student, faculty and community participation. This allows any individual regardless of physical ability, gender or
race to compete in a variety of sports through Special Olympics. Spirit of Sport strives to inspire Special Olympic
Athletes to pursue their dreams.
Bowl For Kids’ Sake
Bowl For Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central
Indiana’s largest, annual fundraising campaign. The campaign culminates in community-wide bowling events in
February and March. They hold parties to thank the members of the community for coming through for the kids. It’s
not about the bowling, it’s about taking part in a fun activity to help local kids in need!
