Biographical Note

Burnham Ware (b. 1949- ), filmmaker and still photographer, donated nine Super 8mm films to the Black Film Center/Archive. Mr. Ware shot the footage while attending lectures in the early 1980s at Georgetown and Kentucky State Universities.

Mr. Ware currently lives in Owenton, Kentucky, and is retired from his job as a laborer. He has had photographs published in 20 publications, books and newspapers. He enjoys Blues recordings; plays guitar, harmonica and the washboard. Mr. Ware has made five short films in the 1980s on various topics.

Scope and Content Note

The Burnham Ware Collection contains two 8mm reels on Houston Baker, lecturer at Kentucky State University; four 8mm reels on Alex Haley, lecturer at Georgetown College, Georgetown, Kentucky on October 7, 1982; one 8mm reel on Gloria Naylor, lecturer at the Women's Writer's Conference, University of Lexington, Lexington, Kentucky; and two 8mm reels on Terry McMillan, lecturer at Kentucky State University.

This collection was catalogued by Monique Threatt, Archivist, Indiana University Black Film Center/Archive and the Super 8mm reels are available for viewing at Indiana University Instructional Support Services.
