- In memoriam: Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away on August 9, 2008. Mac starred in the Emmy nominated TV series The Bernie Mac Show as well as such films as Ocean's Eleven, Head of State, Mr. 3000, Guess Who, Pride and Transformers. For more on Mac and his career see The New York Times.
- In memoriam: Musician/actor Isaac Hayes passed away on August 10, 2008. Hayes won an Academy Award for the theme song from the film Shaft. He also starred in a number of movies including Truck Turner, Escape from New York, I'm Gonna Get You Sucka, Blues Brothers 2000, and Hustle & Flow. - In memoriam: Actor and director Ivan Dixon passed away on March 16, 2008. Dixon was best known for his role as Sgt. James Kinchloe on Hogan's Heroes. He also starred in the film Nothing but a Man and directed the film The Spook Who Sat by the Door. For more on Dixon, see The New York Times.
- Congratulations to Ruby Dee for winning the Screen Actors Guild award for Best Supporting Actress! Dee won the award for her role as Mama Lucas in American Gangster. She has also been nominated for an Academy Award for her performance. The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on February 24, 2008.
