- CONGRATULATIONS to James Earl Jones for receiving the Screen Actors Guild's 45th Annual Life Achievement Award. Jones was honored at the SAG award ceremony on January 25, 2009. For more on Jones see the SAG press release.
- 2009 OSCAR NOMINATIONS! Congratulations to Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson for receiving nominations in the Supporting Actress category. Davis was nominated for her role in Doubt and Henson for her role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The film Trouble the Water, which follows Scott and Kimberly Rivers Roberts life during and after Hurricane Katrina, was nominated in the Documentary Feature category. New Boy, a film about a nine year old African boy starting his first day in school in Ireland, was nominated in the Live Action Short Film category. The 2009 Academy Awards ceremony will be on Sunday, February 22.
- In memoriam: Actor Bernie Hamilton passed away on December 30, 2008 at the age of 80. Hamilton appeared in over 20 films and made numerous guest appearances on television series. He was a regular on the 1970s series "Starsky and Hutch" where he played Capt. Harold Dobey.
- In memoriam: Actress/singer Eartha Kitt passed away on December 25, 2008. For more on Kitt and her career see The New York Times.
- In memoriam: Actor/comedian Rudy Ray Moore passed away on October 19, 2008. Moore starred in the 1975 film Dolemite as well as The Human Tornado and Disco Godfather. For more on Moore and his career see MSN Movie News.
- CONGRATULATIONS to Glynn Turman on winning his first Emmy Award. Turman was named Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his work on the HBO series "In Treatment." For more on Turman, EUR Web.
- CONGRATULATIONS to Morgan Freeman for being chosen as one of this year's Kennedy Center honorees. Other performers being honored this year are Barbra Streisand, country singer George Jones, choreographer Twyla Tharp, and Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who. The Kennedy Center gala will be held on December 7 and televised on CBS at a later date.
