Employment Opportunities

The Biology Club is a great way to network with potential employers. You can meet professionals working in every aspect of Biology through our "Futures in Biology" events that we co-host with the Career Development Office. There are also several opportunities for employment working in a lab during your undergraduate years here at IU. Whenever we receive information on a new job position opening up, we will post the information here. Sometimes we will have positions that aren't listed on the Biology Department Homepage, so you should check both sites regulalry.

Work Study or L490 Position Available in the Martins' Lab

We need good/hardworking work study or L490 students in the Zebrafish lab (Emilia Martins' Lab). Work in the lab will involve cleaning fish tanks, assisting with fish behavioral experiments, breeding zebrafish, scoring behavior test video tapes, occasionally fixing small leaks (general maintenance), etc. This could be a good opportunity for undergraduate students looking for experience working in an animal behavior lab. We would prefer the student to work approximately 6-9 hours per week with flexible hours.

$7.50 - $8.50 (depending on experience) per hour

If you are interested, please contact: Anu Bhat (anubhat@indiana.edu)

Work Study or L490 Position Available in the Martins Lab

Saul Nava is looking for responsible work study students to help feed and maintain lizards. Duties would be to maintain and culture flightless fruit flies (Drosophila) used for lizard food, feed, water, keep inventory, and care for lizards; occasionally clean and fix lizard terrariums; and occasionally help set-up lizard terrariums. There is potential for helping collect behavioral data from visual sensory and communication experiments on lizards.

Saul would prefer Biology students with some experience in reptile (lizard) care. Also, preference would be given to students that would be available to work during the Summer and Winter breaks (since these are the times when he goes to the field).

Approximately 6-9 hours per week with flexible hours.

$7.50 - $8.50 (depending on experience) per hour

Also, if there are any students that do not qualify for work study but are interested in gaining behavioral research experience, please contact Saul to talk about the possibility of registering for L490 credit.
