As part of his studies of the biological sciences, Ray has been investigating topics related to host-pathogen co-evolutionary dynamics and the evolution of sexual reproduction. Outside of the lab, Ray has co-founded and is the president of the philanthropic student organization Folding@IU, which provides distributed computing resources to a project at Stanford University that studies protein folding and misfolding-related diseases. He serves on the Board of Aeons, a research and advisory board that works with President Michael McRobbie to address long-term issues facing the university. In his time at IU, Ray has received a Herman B Wells Scholarship, Fernandus & Elizabeth J. Payne Scholarship, Carl H. Eigenmann Scholarship, and has been named Phi Beta Kappa. Following graduation, Ray will be attending Harvard Medical School beginning August 2014. Ray also received the Biology Undergraduate Award and the Fox Glen Research and Education Fund Award.
