The adapted physical education minor will prepare the physical educator to design and develop programs for special populations in the school and community settings.

Athletic Training Minor (42.5-59.5 cr.)
An athletic training minor may be attached to a physical education major program. Admission to this minor is limited, and candidates must both complete a written application and appear for a personal interview. To apply, candidates must have successfully completed all prerequisite course work, with a minimum 2.7 GPA in prerequisite courses and a minimum 2.5 GPA overall. Applications are accepted only at the end of the spring semester.
Candidates who transfer from another college/university must also submit at least two letters of recommendation from athletic training faculty at their previous institution. Prerequisites: HPER H160 First Aid (3 cr.)

The driver education endorsement may be earned to accompany a major in physical education or another field of education or may be earned totally separately from an undergraduate degree. To teach driver education in programs not affiliated with a high school, individuals must take the courses listed below (13 credits), have earned at least 60 college credits (which may include the 13 credit hours listed below), and do not need to hold a teaching license. Maintaining a Teaching License


The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) requires licensed teachers to take courses on an ongoing basis to maintain a valid teaching license, as follows:
Six credit hours every five years; undergraduate or graduate courses in education or license area(s). Submit documentation to IDOE.

Earning Certification to Teach
Individuals who have earned college degrees but who do not hold teaching credentials may pursue those credentials through a process called certification. The process involves a review of past course work, designation of required courses, application to the certification program, and successful completion of required courses.
