Discussion with Sidonie Smith

Graduate Curricula in the New Normal

Thursday, February 23, 2017, 3:30pm

Dogwood Room, IMU

Sidonie Smith, former President of the MLA and current Mary Fair Croushore Professor of the Humanities at the University of Michigan comes to Bloomington to explore what graduate curricula in the humanities might look like going forward. In Manifesto for the Humanities: Transforming Doctoral Education in Good Enough Times, Smith emphasizes opportunities rather than threats. Smith will be joined by two IU graduate students, Betsy Jose and Douglas Peach, who were selected to attend the 2016 Summer Workshop in Alternative Academic Careers in Chicago through the Humanities Without Walls Consortium. We hope to have a freewheeling discussion about what graduate education in the Humanities can and should be today.
