As complex networks catalyze local incidents into international crises, as global events appear and disappear on multiple screens at an accelerated pace, as a war of spectacles displaces the spectacle of war, it becomes impossible to capture the changing nature of global violence by conventional methods of inquiry. With global violence phase-shifting at light speed from states to sub-states, local to global, public to private, organised to chaotic, virtual to real—and back again—new transdisciplinary and transmedia approaches are needed to comprehend a new phenomenon: quantum war.
Part of the In/Visibility of America’s 21st Century Wars speaker series.
