Things to Know:

Students will qualify for Mandatory Health Insurance based on one of the following:

  • Fellowship Recipients:
  1. Student receives minimum combination of fellowships as defined in the Budget Construction Attachment.
  2. Fellowship processed by required date (Sept 30, Jan 31)
  3. All fellowships are included in determining a student’s eligibility for Mandatory Health Insurance.
  • Academic Appointees:
  1. Student is appointed at a level of at least 37.5% FTE, processed by required date (Sept 30, Jan 31)
  • If a student’s fellowship or academic appointment salary is charged to a general fund account, the charges for the SAA Health Insurance premium are covered by campus funds held by the Budgetary Administration and Planning Office.
  • Fellowships awarded by non-IU (external) entities must be sent directly to the Office of the Bursar for processing in order for students to qualify for student health insurance. Fellowships routed directly to the student will not be recognized as insurance eligible funds.
