Scene DesignThis scene was created using Maya 5.0, Photoshop 7.0, and UnrealEd 3.0. The process of creating the character was broken down into 4 steps: Modelling, UV layout, Texturing, and Importing. Modelling was pretty straightforward. I took 2 pictures of myself, one from the front, and one from the side, then I put them into Maya and basically traced around them in 3d. Next is UV layout. This is where I flatten out all of the curved surfaces on my model and place them onto a flat image map. For this model I made two separate UV sets, for two image maps. One for the head and face, and one for the body. I did this to allow for more detail to be done on the face. Next step is to create the texture. I take the UV maps created in the last step and color over them to create the colored final texture map. I then go back into Maya and attach the newly made texture to the model and whoala, a finished character model. The final step is to import the model from maya to unrealed. This process is rather complicated, but boils down to importing the model in, attaching the textures, saving the model, and texture packages, then altering the Unreal Tournament 2004 system files so they recognize my trooper. If you have any questions about this process feel free to email me. The computer is my brush, Jason Scott |
