HSSSE staff is committed to ensuring that schools are able to make effective use of their data so they can continue to strengthen student engagement in the life and work of their school. Workshops and professional development are available for schools who want individual sessions to further explore their data with the help of HSSSE staff. Below is a presentation from a recent HSSSE Institute Professional Development Workshop at a traditional public high school.

Examining HSSSE/MGSSE to Improve Student

HSSSE Institute participants have remarked on the value of information provided from the workshops:

"In Marion Community Schools, we have found both the High School Survey of Student Engagement (HSSSE) and the Middle Grades Survey of Student Engagement (MGSSE)  to be powerful tools in helping our staff grasp a better understanding of student engagement within our high school, junior high and intermediate schools.  Our district and school administrators and teaching staff have learned a great deal from the survey results about the perceptions students have related to their engagement in our schools’ learning environments.  The data collected have been rich and valuable.  The survey results are telling barometers of the health of the student learning cultures within our secondary schools.

The HSSSE and MGSSE Institute workshops were invaluable in helping our staff understand the survey results more clearly and deeply.  The workshops provided us with excellent guidance on how to take action to address significant deficiencies in our school environments to improve our learning culture and student academic achievement."
