Distance Education Courses
To help expand national access to instruction in selected Central Asian languages, CeLCAR offers distance education courses for Less Commonly Taught Languages using interactive videoconferencing (Polycom). Current offerings are listed below. There are several ways to register for these language courses: students at CIC institutions can register at their home institutions and non-CIC students can register through Indiana University’s School of Continuing Studies. For more information on registration, please contact CeLCAR directly.
CeLCAR is currently seeking to expand its partnerships and develop materials and provide training for teachers in synchronous and asynchronous distance learning of the languages of the Central Asian Region. Both individuals and institutions are encouraged to contact CeLCAR with their needs and proposals for future courses.
From 2003-2006, with support from NSEP, CeLCAR organized distance education courses in Uzbek and Kazakh, taught by CeLCAR personnel, and offered by the Department of Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University. The courses were open to all members of the Committee of Institutional Cooperation (CIC) through its Less Commonly Taught Languages program in CourseShare. More information on this program can be found at
CIC Website.
