As the director of CeLTIE,
Dr. Chan brings to the center
a
multilingual,
multicultural, and
multidisciplinary grounding.
Chan is a native speaker
of
Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese.
Through
his studies of English,
French, and
German he gained
a solid understanding of the
challenges
of mastering
foreign
languages and
cultures. He earned his B.A. in English
literature, his M.S.
in Instructional Systems Technology and
Ph.D. in
Computer
education.
He has a strong grasp
of the
major theories of pedagogy, instructional
design, and
multi-media
development. |
| Chan complemented his education with valuable
work
experience, including
many years of experience teaching
and
managing
instructional technology in
higher education
environments. As the
Instructional Development Coordinator
at Hong
Kong University
of Science and Technology, Language Pedagogy Project
Coordinator at Indiana University
Bloomington,
Director of Education
Computer
Lab and
assistant professor of
computer education at Indiana
University
South
Bend, he
developed deep
understanding
of
the pedagogical and technological
needs of faculty and
students.
He
is experienced in
managing computer
laboratories
for
special
purposes and in working with language
faculty in
integrating leading-edge
technology into language learning. |
