Overview
This course offers students a unique opportunity to develop English language proficiency specifically for work and study in business professions.
- Seven-week course of study
- 4 hours of class 5 days a week
- Content and skill-based courses
- Faculty with extensive ESL teaching experience in the US and abroad AND in Business English programs.
Requirements for Participation
Prospective students must meet the following requirements for participation in the Business English course:
- Have experience in business professions and/or have taken post-secondary school business courses
- Have intermediate to high-intermediate English language proficiency
Recommended TOEFL scores of
- iBT: 61 or more
- CBT: 173 or more
- PBT: 500 or more
Course of Study
The Business English classes at the Intensive English Program will provide English language instruction in the context of relevant business topics and tasks.
- Business Oral Communication
- Social Interaction (i.e. office interaction; meeting visitors; giving tours)
- Public Presentations (i.e.
- Discussions (i.e. committee meetings; team collaboration
- Phone calls
- Business Written Communication
- Office communication: memos, letters, email
- Public communication: Case Studies; Executive Summaries
Extra-curricular Activities
The Business English Course offers several fieldtrips and activities to the students participating. These are unique opportunities to visit business organizations and professionals such as the following:
- The Monroe County Chamber of Commerce
- The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University
- Attend lectures by Business professionals
- Visit local businesses
