SPEA Jumpstart Program Training :: Special Programs :: Programs
Overview
This course is designed exclusively for admitted Master’s degree students in the School of Environment and Public Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University. The purpose of the course is to help second language graduate students to sharpen language skills and improve reading, writing, and comprehension skills necessary to succeed in SPEA programs.
- Seven-week course of study
- 4 hours of class 5 days a week
- Content and skill-based courses
- Faculty with extensive ESL teaching experience in the US and abroad AND in the SPEA Jumpstart Program Training
Course of Study
This program focuses on helping students to develop greater proficiency in oral and written communication necessary in SPEA programs such as:
- Interpersonal Communication
- Presentations
- Class Discussion
- Case studies and Case analysis
- Critical Reviews
- Reading Strategies
Extra-curricular Activities
- Conversation Exchange with American SPEA graduate students
- Conversations with SPEA Professors
- Visits to public offices (i.e. Transportation, Sanitation)
- Attend a City Council Meeting
- Coffee Conversation Hours
- Chicago day trip
- Picnic
Requirements for Participation
Prospective participants must be admitted into Master’s degree programs in SPEA.
Application Process
Complete the online application of the Intensive English Language Program (IEP) at Indiana University.
