About the CEMR

The Center for Econometric Model Research is engaged in the study and use of statistical models for both forecasting and academic research. The Center was established in 1982 under co-directors Jeff Green and Morton Marcus with the support of both the Kelley School of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition to Professor Green, the Directors of the Center are James C. Smith and Willard E. Witte. The Center is located in Wylie Hall (which also houses the Department of Economics) on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University, and is staffed with faculty and graduate students from IU in both Bloomington and Indianapolis. The Center is financed by income from subscribers as well as contract research projects.

The primary activity of the Center is the development of econometric models that are used to produce both short-run forecasts (2-3 year horizon) and long-run projections (20 year horizon). These forecasts are available on a subscription basis. Current models include:

The Indiana Model of the US (IMUS)

The IMUS has over 200 variables at the national level, using data at a quarterly frequency. The model is used to produce short-run forecasts on a monthly schedule. Twenty-year projections from the model are done twice a year.

The Indiana Model of Indiana (IMI)

The IMI is designed to forecast employment and income variables at a quarterly frequency, currently for over 25 sectors of the state economy. The model is used to produce short-run forecasts on a quarterly schedule. Twenty-year projections from the model are done twice a year.

The Indiana Sub-State Model (ISSM)

The ISSM is a relatively simple model that can be used to forecast employment and income variables for up to10 geographic regions of Indiana. One version of the model is configured to produce forecasts for sub-state regions approximating the operating areas of the state's electric utility firms. A second version is configured for the major MSAs in the state. The models are used to produce short-run forecasts twice a year.
