This seminar explores the concept of Jihad and how it has been utilized in
both medieval and modern discourses. Jihad as a medieval literary genre and
Jihad as a modern political discourse will be examined through the use of
primary and secondary sources, such as the Qur¹an, the Hadith, Ottoman
historical and literary manuscripts, and more recent interpretations from Middle
Eastern and Western popular and scholarly sources.
