U320/U520  Writing in Finnish

This course is aimed at students of Finnish who want to develop and practice their writing skills. Production of texts representing various genres and styles is regarded as a multi-stage process. Therefore, the participants will be given writing assignments, the outcomes of which will be analyzed both with peers and the instructor, and revised further. Texts by established Finnish authors will be analyzed to help students become aware of differences in structures and styles between various genres of written Finnish. The assignments include such texts as short story, essay, brief article, review (of a book, movie, play, or concert), summary, report, reply, formal letters and an application, poem, causerie, column.

Days and Time:  Tuesday and Thursday, 11:15-12:30.
