MASTER OF LIBRARY SCIENCE/
MASTER OF INFORMATION SCIENCE -
INFORMATION SPECIALIST IN CHEMISTRY
PROGRAM
A joint program of the Indiana University School of Library
and Information Science (SLIS) and the Department of Chemistry,
the MLS/MIS-Information Specialist in Chemistry curriculum
provides
training for a career in chemical information science or special
librarianship. The SLIS requirements for the program are outlined
in the SLIS Bulletin. Elective hours are directed by the
Department of Chemistry. The program of study must include:
- C471 Chemical Information Sources
and Services (1 hr.),
- C472 Computer Sources for Chemical
Information (1 hr.),
Admission: Students must be admitted to the School of
Library
and Information Science. Pre-requisites are at least 18 hours of
chemistry, including general chemistry, general chemistry laboratory,
organic chemistry, organic chemistry laboratory, and physical
chemistry. It is assumed that the candidate will have the
equivalent of a 25-hour B.A. in chemistry by the time the program
is completed. Additional chemistry courses to satisfy this
requirement must include at least two of the following: analytical
chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry.
