Exercise: Description of Common Molecules
The Reciprocal Net project is a distrubuted molecular database,
created for the storage and display of crystallograpic information. The audience for this
molecular database ranges from academic researchers to elementary educators. A
popular component of the project is the
Common Molecules collection--a set of
interesting or everyday molecules, placed into specific categories. Your
assignment is to pick two separate molecules to describe following the guidelines
below. Your submissions will be added to the Common Molecules database along with
due credit for your intellectual property.
Your text created for submission should be written in a text editor (ie. Notepad, Word) with sections:
- Your name:
- Name of Compound:
- Short Sentence:
- Explanation:
- Keywords:
- Sources used:
Further Description of these submission items, including directions for specific Common Molecules categories,
can be found here.
Please follow these guidelines in creating your molecular descriptions and pay special attention to the word
limits for each item as well as the specific category for which your molecule applies.
Do not forget to include all sources of information used in the collection of your molecular
content submissions under the "Sources used" item. When your description is finished, log onto
Oncourse and enter the "In Touch" tab. Click on "Reciprocal Net
Molecular Submissions" and upload your file. That's it!
Please examine some of the following examples of this molecular content for guidance:
If you have any questions concerning references or submission requirements, do not
hesitate to contact either Ryan Lauer or Gary Wiggins. Each student should do
at two separate molecules, and a signup sheet for individual molecule assignments
will be available in class.
