INTRODUCTION

What is the CCIIM at Indiana University?

The Clearinghouse for Chemical Information Instructional Materials (CCIIM) collects and distributes items that were developed to instruct you in the use of chemical information sources. These were created by chemistry or science librarians, chemists, publishers, or others. On the other hand, SIRCh (Selected Internet Resources for Chemistry) contains links to factual sources on the Web where you can get answers to questions you might have.

The CCIIM was initiated by the chemistry information divisions of the American Chemical Society and the Special Libraries Association. Their home pages are linked to the icons at the top of this page.

Three types of material are accessible through this site:

Future contributors are urged to submit URLs or files to Gary Wiggins WIGGINS@INDIANA.EDU for consideration of placement in the CCIIM directory.

Table of Contents of the CCIIM

The following notes will help you interpret the lists of items in the CCIIM Table of Contents.

CLASSIFICATION SCHEME

Items in the CCIIM are arranged according to a numbered subject classification from 00 to 15. In addition, there are separate sections in the 30s for major tools or databases and in the 50s, 60s, and 70s for pedagogical material related to chemical information. Commercial products within sections are numbered with an extra "1" at the beginning (e.g., 109-02, 131-09, etc.). Those are available only from the commercial source which produced them, unless they are freely accessible on the Internet. For the most part, paper copies in these categories are free from the commercial producers.

A dot and a number following the accession number indicates the date of the last revision for those items that are directly accessible on the Internet, for example:

The dates are in the form 195, 295, 395.... o95, n95, d95, with numbers for the first 9 months and letters for the final three months. Numbers following the slashes (/) after the titles indicate the number of pages in the documents. See the order form for price information of photocopies.

A second type of number may be encountered for commercial products, for example:

ITEMS FROM THE CDC

The items from the Centers for Disease Control in Section 12 are updated very frequently and are available free from:
