Water sports were an integral part of the Chickagami experience. Campers were required to pass a Red Cross intermediate training test to be allowed to go on canoe trips, a favorite activity. Other water sport options included row boating, paddling, and sailing. All campers took turns cooking meals each week, and many were offered leadership training through public speaking and helping to coordinate activities.

Other general activities included:

Tennis
Day trips
Riflery
Horseback riding
Jewelry making
Modern dance
Photography
Drama (Ruth wrote an annual musical that was performed at the end of camp. Campers made costumes and scenery, sang, danced, and acted in the production.)

Special events and activities included:

Evening Programs
Barbecues
Vagabond Day: Campers and counselors could apply their camp craft skills
Council Fires: Weekly gatherings in which campers built camp fires and often invited area Indians to participate
County Fair: Each cabin made its own booth and created its own program
Flag Services: Weekly service including poetry readings
