Research Description:

I have been working with the Bloomington Urban Forestry Research Group since August 2013 as a graduate research assistant. I have been assisting with a project evaluating the outcomes of neighborhood urban forestry funded by the National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council (NUCFAC) Challenge Cost-Share Grant. I am also using data from street tree inventories in Bloomington to test the Urban Site Index developed by Ohio urban foresters Stephanie Miller and Alan Siewert. The Urban Site Index is a rating system intended for use by untrained members of the public to assess site quality before a planting project, with the goal of planting the "Right Tree in the Right Spot." I am interested in how humans interact with their environment in urban settings and the implications those interactions have for issues like conservation and climate change. I would like to work to improve the relationship between people and the environment.
